Beyond the Classroom
This is a sample of some of the clubs and extra-curricular activities which take place on a regular basis in school.
Speech Lessons
We offer speech training which is provided by Ms Helen Clark, a specialist speech and drama coach, at an additional charge. Our speech lessons focus on building confidence for public speaking. The children undertake exams organised by the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
Computer and Coding Club
An IT and Coding Club offers the junior children an opportunity to partake and learn new skills in a less formal setting than a class lesson. This popular Club can be accessed on a weekly basis after school.
Exam Club
In order to further prepare for the 11+ Grammar School entrance exams, Exam Club runs Tuesday evenings starting at the beginning of the second half of the Autumn term for the Year 6 pupils and is free of charge. This club is run by our Headteacher.
Music Lessons
In addition to class Music lessons, individual guitar, piano and ukulele tuition is also available on request for all children. These lessons are provided by our in-house dedicated instrumental Music Teacher, Mr Bowie.
French Club
Due to the popularity of this MFL which is taught on a weekly basis to all age groups, our French teacher, Madame Gilbart has set up this club for the children who are particularly interested in French conversation. As well as enhancing the Curriculum it gives our talented linguists the opportunity to extend their knowledge and understanding of the French language.
Art Club
This lunchtime club has been a firm favourite during the years and runs each Tuesday, catering for all age groups. Our local artist and Art teacher, Mrs Baldwin, explores many different themes and ideas with the children. The work produced during these sessions adorns the school walls and is simply outstanding.
Sports Club
To give children an even wider introduction to the world of sport, an optional after-school Sports Club provides tuition in a variety of sports including badminton, table tennis and athletics on Wednesday evenings. The Club is hosted by coaches from Stockport County. This operates on a half-termly basis with KS 1 and KS 2 accessing the Club on alternate half-terms.
A new addition to our provision of clubs and activities during the Autumn Term is our Karate Club, led by a local qualified and experienced coach. The Club is operated as a lunchtime club and caters for all age groups from Pre-Prep to Year 6. No specialist clothing is required for this club.
Gardening Club
For our younger children there is the opportunity to join our in-house Gardening Club, which is delivered on Wednesday lunchtimes by one of our teachers, Mrs Jones, who has a passion for gardening and growing. Currently it is being offered to the younger members of our school but this provision may be rolled out to the older children during a future term. Many of our clubs operate on an alternating pattern each term in order to keep the numbers low and more specific to a particular age group. It also helps to give more variety to the number of clubs we can provide.
